The story of this temple being built by order of Emperor Yomei in 586 has been passed down along with the Legend of Hannya Hime. It has a large following as a famous old Shingon Buddhism temple. Beautiful Obatake Seto scenery is visible from the lookout spot. A Purification Fire Festival is held here every February 15.
